St. Charles resident to challenge Wheeler in 50th State House race

Kate Monteleone, a 17-year Campton Township resident, will challenge 3-term incumbent Keith Wheeler (R-Oswego) in the November election.

A non-profit consultant and executive director with 25-years leadership experience, Monteleone says it's time for real representation for the communities of Kane and Kendall counties included in the 50th House district.

"People I've met are tired of the status quo," she said.

Monteleone was slated to run for the seat by the chairpersons of the Kane and Kendall County Democratic organizations and filed nominating petitions in Springfield on June 1.

Mark Guethle, chairman of Kane County Democrats, said, "Kate Monteleone is strategic and has the judgment and maturity that resonates with Kane County voters."

Monteleone advocates for property tax relief for homeowners, increased State support to public schools, and safe communities. She also wants to ensure the interests of local communities are reflected during redistricting which will occur next year.

"Illinois has its problems. Our infrastructure is crumbling and there are disparities in access to healthcare, education and justice that must be addressed. Moving beyond this moment requires courage, compassion, and understanding the art of compromise. Governance is not a zero-sum game," she said.
