Summer Sunset Festival off in Lake in the Hills

The 20th annual Lake in the Hills Summer Sunset Festival has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The festival committee postponed the decision as long as possible but ultimately decided the Restore Illinois plan wouldn't allow for the expected crowds during Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-6, at Sunset Park.

"We are of course very disappointed to have to cancel," said festival chairman Ray Bogdanowski, who also is a village trustee. "This is an event we all take great pride in and love to put on for our residents."

The Restore Illinois plan entered Phase 4 on June 26, but Lake in the Hills officials believe its free festival can't take place without the state's being in Phase 5.

"As much as we have looked forward to this festival, especially on an anniversary year, we have to keep the safety and well-being of our community as the top priority," Bogdanowski said.
