Wheeling Township Continues to Help Residents During Pandemic

Wheeling Township remains focused on assisting its residents during the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. While the building remains closed to the public through the end of May per the governor's Stay at Home order, pre-packed bags of food, transportation to medical appointments, the grocery store and pharmacies, and services through General/Emergency Assistance and the Assessor's Office continue to be available to Township residents.

"We know our residents are facing challenges during the shutdown, and we are dedicated to ensuring that services remain available to help them," said Wheeling Township Supervisor, Kathleen Penner. "Access to transportation, food, and financial assistance if needed, remain our top priorities."

General Assistance (GA) or Emergency Assistance (EA): Residents facing financial hardship, potential eviction or utility disconnections should contact the Township to learn more about applying for GA or EA. In most cases, appointments will be handled over the phone, but there may be restrictions. Call 847-259-7730 and a member of the General Assistance Department will return the call.

Food Pantry: Should residents require food, call 847-259-7730 or email GA@wheelingtownship.com. Bags of shelf-stable foods are available for current food pantry clients, or any Township resident in need. Pre-packed bags of food are available for pickup on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and noon, and from 1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.

Food Pantry Donations: For community members wishing to donate food to the food pantry, donations are welcomed Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Current needs include canned fruits, canned meats, canned vegetables, soups, packaged potatoes, rice, pasta, pasta sauce, cereal and tuna. Township Transportation: Rides to medical appointments such as dialysis, and to grocery stores and pharmacies are being provided Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Buses are being sanitized, and social distancing is being practiced on every bus. For more information, or for an application, call the Transportation Department directly at 847-259-7743. Transportation is available for seniors over the age of 60 and for disabled persons 18 years of age and older.

The Assessor's Office staff is available to assist property owners with property tax questions via email or phone. Residents may call the assessor's office at 847-259-1515 or email taxinfo@wheelingtownship.com.
