HKM Architects + Planners Promote Two to Vice-President

HKM Architects + Planners, Inc., an Arlington Heights-based architectural firm has announced that architects Eden Richards and Adam Thoma have been named as Vice-Presidents. Both Richards and Thoma reside in Arlington Heights.

HKM was founded in 1995 on the belief that architecture and land planning are tightly integrated, and that clients and communities are best served when the two disciplines work in unison. Among the many projects designed by the firm are the Metropolis building in Arlington Heights, Naperville Crossings, Barrington Village Center, multiple buildings at Northern Illinois University, as well as a series of buildings designed for Misericordia Home in Chicago.

"Eden and Adam represent the next generation of leadership for HKM," said Mark Kurensky, one of the firm's founding partners. "They understand that architects and land planners working together is what has made our firm unique and they will uphold that vision as we move into the future."

Richards has been with HKM for 23 years, focusing on commercial, multi-family residential, senior living and college campus facilities. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies (BSAS), and Master of Architecture (M. ARCH), from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is NCARB certified and LEED AP BD+C accredited.

"I have been fortunate to work in an environment in which co-workers, clients and consultants can openly collaborate to ensure a lasting commitment to quality, design and usability in the projects we oversee," said Richards. "I appreciate the confidence our founders have shown in me and look forward to enhancing the HKM brand in the years ahead."

Thoma has spent the last six years of his career at HKM. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Judson University. Recent projects at HKM have focused on commercial, multi-family residential and academic facilities.

"I love the design and creative process we encounter as architects and planners," said Thoma. "Our clients come to HKM looking for solutions and while each instance is unique, I enjoy the challenge immensely. It is exciting to see the HKM brand evolve as our team remains committed to client satisfaction."
