Find out how to keep kids safe on the internet and social media
How do we keep children safe on the internet and social media? The Foglia YMCA will host a free interactive forum to help protect students from the real dangers.
The engaging forum, "Safe Cyber Choices," geared toward 9-14-year olds and their parents, takes place 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 at the YMCA, 1025 N. Old McHenry Road, Lake Zurich.
The Foglia YMCA Board of Directors is bringing in two industry leaders to explore and facilitate an engaging discussion on keeping kids safe and making safe cyber choices. The speakers have partnered with the FBI, Homeland Security, and other organizations and have given presentations at school districts, corporations and Northwestern University.
The presentation will provide specific tools to help keep young people safe and secure throughout the cyber world. The industry experts will address how to protect a young person's reputation, identify sex trafficking practices they may be exposed to and how to avoid these lures.
"This event will be an interactive discussion and will provide information, tools and resources that all kids and parents should have," said Foglia YMCA Board Chair Jamie Maravich. The speakers bring a great deal of experience and knowledge to the table, she said.

Speaker Biographies:
Chris Baker is an award-winning tattoo artist and founded INK 180 Ministry to provide a second chance to people by removing the tattoos that defined their past. He has partnered with the FBI, U.S. Attorney's Office, Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of Justice to become a national speaker. He addresses topics including social media safety, sex trafficking, and gang intervention. He brings real life experience and proactive examples in an interactive format.
Todd Spight has conducted numerous classes on internet safety for young people, including school districts corporations and at Northwestern University. He is chief security officer at Net56 Inc. He stresses the importance of safeguarding one's cyber footprint today, as well as their identity and reputation in the future. Spight is a certified information systems security professional and gears his discussion toward young people and provides relevant materials, workbooks and discussion that enable participants to make safe cyber choices.
