Mundelein Park District dancers to perform in televised parade

Thirteen Mundelein School of Dance students will be participating in the first opening dance for the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival Parade at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.

The event will be televised live on ABC 7 and nationally syndicated throughout the month of December. The dancers are part of the park district program's Senior and Advanced Company that participate in dance competitions.

About 20 dance studios from Chicagoland are participating in the opening dance with the park district's Mundelein School of Dance.

"Mundelein Dance Company has never participated in something of this magnitude," said Heather Burnes, dance coordinator at the park district. "I'm so excited for our dancers to have this amazing opportunity."

The students performing in the parade include Beth Aquino, Madeline Aquino, Stephanie Aquino, Kayla Baltazar, Tori Collins, Emma Holton, Ella Kasamis, Lexi Kasamis, Derek Lee, Lily Lopez, Shannon Ouimet, Taylor Petersen and Sophie Volk.

The dancers will learn the choreography for the performance in advance and then rehearse as a group with all the dance studios on the Friday evening before the parade on Saturday. The parade takes place rain, snow or shine.

Mundelein School of Dance offers instruction in a range of dance styles, from jazz and ballet to hip-hop and tap, for ages 1 to adult. The next dance session begins in January and concludes with a spring recital.
