Cook County, Northwest suburbs receive HUD funding

U.S. Sens. Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin have announced $39.2 million in federal funding to Illinois communities through programs administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) program helps provide decent housing and a suitable living environment, as well as expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income residents.

Among the communities receiving funding are:

• Cook County: $10.6 million

• Palatine: $476,996

• Schaumburg: $342,147

• Des Plaines: $302,509

• Arlington Heights: $269,344

• Mount Prospect: $252,222

Cook County also will receive $6.3 million through the HOME program to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing and $869,683 through the Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) program to assist people in quickly regaining stability in permanent housing.
