Jacobs students support NAMI Run/Walk 5K
The National Alliance on Mental Illness is the nation's largest grass-roots mental health organization that aims to educate and advocate communities around the country to end the stigma about mental illness.
2019 marks the celebration of 17 years of NAMI Walks, the nation's largest mental health awareness and fundraising events.
In their pursuit to end the stigma/discrimination surrounding mental health illnesses, the Jacobs High School Eagle Minds Matter club volunteered at the NAMI Walk/Run on Sunday, Oct. 6.
The event was held at Norris Center of Northwestern University in Evanston. A student-led group, Eagle Minds Matter, has over 35 students that volunteer in the community, raise money, and spread awareness to improve and build a positive mental health culture in school regarding mental wellness. Students were positioned along the 5K route as guides to cheer on walkers and runners.
More than 500 people participated in this NAMI Walk and over $140,000 were raised for research for treatments for mental illness.
