McHenry man charged with burglary of Spring Grove bar

A McHenry man faces several charges after being accused of burglarizing a Spring Grove bar, stealing several bottles of alcohol and leading police on a foot chase, authorities said in a news release Friday.

James M. Kennebeck, 29, of the 400 block of Rand Drive, has been charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, both felonies, and misdemeanor charges of resisting a peace officer, criminal damage to property and theft.

Kennebeck's arrest came after Lake County sheriff's deputies were called to Route 12 Bar & Grill, 37450 N. Route 12, in response to a burglar alarm Friday about 4:10 a.m. Deputies arrived and checked the building's exterior and found a closed door with fresh pry marks, indicating someone attempted to force entry.

The deputy called for additional units and believed a burglar was inside. As the additional units were responding, a man, later identified as Kennebeck emerged from the bar & grill. The deputy ordered Kennebeck to stop, but he refused and fled on foot. The deputy apprehended Kennebeck after a brief foot-chase, the release stated.

Kennebeck was found to be in possession of several bottles of alcohol from the bar & grill. While fleeing, one of the bottles hidden in his pants shattered and cut him on the leg. He was evaluated by paramedics and released and taken to the Lake County jail.

Kennebeck also had an active failure to appear arrest warrant out of McHenry County for driving under the influence of alcohol, authorities said.

A court hearing is pending.
