WAYS celebrating 36 years at April 16 luncheon

Wayne/Winfield Area Youth/Family Services will be celebrating its 36th anniversary of providing social services to the community. The annual luncheon and silent auction will be 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at WAYS. West Suburban Bank is the luncheon sponsor. Augustino's Restaurant will be catering the event and luncheon tickets are $20. Raffle tickets at $1 each (or six for $5) are also available.

Community awards and certificates of appreciation will be presented to individuals and groups who have supported WAYS in the past year. Included in these awards Laurel Hill Elementary School, Liberty Elementary School, Spring Trail Elementary School, Ontarioville Elementary School, Prairieview Elementary School, Hawk Hollow Elementary School, and Tefft Middle School. Included in these certificates of appreciation are Wayne Township, Winfield Township, DuPage County, West Suburban Bank, Augustino's, Tom Feltes, Dave Falls, NJS Enterprises, Eduardo Castillo and Jennifer Pochowicz of DuPage County Sheriff's Department, St. Michael's United Church of Christ (West Chicago), and St. Peter's United Church of Christ (Elmhurst).

Highlights of the event are a buffet served at noon with the silent auction featuring over 50 baskets from $10 to several hundred dollars valuation with items donated by the community.

Baskets feature gift cards and items donated by restaurants, salons, boutiques, and local merchants. Proceeds of the silent auction will support WAYS day camp program which serves children in need.

Of the families that WAYS serves, 53 percent are at or below the poverty level, and another 6 percent are from struggling families. Raffle tickets purchases and lunch reservations can be made by calling WAYS at (630) 231-7166 Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please also call for more information on WAYS services or to make direct donations.

WAYS provides individual, family and group therapy, anger management and parenting classes in English and Spanish; senior computer and senior technology classes, youth social skills group, youth one-to-one tutoring, and summer day camp. WAYS is a community based not-for-profit agency serving West Chicago, Winfield, Wayne, Warrenville, Bartlett, Carol Stream, and Hanover Park. Funding is provided by Wayne Township, Winfield Township, DuPage County, client fees, insurance, donations and fundraisers such as this silent auction.
