First United Methodist Church of Palatine Statement of Welcome

First United Methodist Church of Palatine seeks to intentionally include all people into our church family. This radical welcome is based on our belief in Jesus Christ and His message of love and inclusion

Since 1972, The United Methodist Church has denied our LGBTQ+ siblings from full inclusion in the Church, and our General Conference in February reaffirmed this stance. We at First United Methodist Church of Palatine oppose this as being hurtful and discriminatory.

During this time of Lent, we publicly repent of our personal and communal sins that led us to hurt our neighbors in this way. We have been serving the community of Palatine for 184 years. We want to continue that tradition of serving and being inclusive for all who seek Jesus.

We are a historic and communal church that is dedicated to life-changing faith, building Christian community, and serving our neighborhood. Because of this commitment, all are included at our table: all ages, all races, all genders and gender identities, all sexual orientations, all socioeconomic statuses, all nationalities, all ethnicities, all citizenships, and all ability levels. We specifically welcome fully those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning into our church community.
