Jazz singer to perform at Sunday concert series

On March 24, the St. Charles Public Library's Sunday Concert Series will host Chicago jazz singer Elaine Dame at 2 p.m. in the Carnegie Community Room, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

Dame will celebrate the collaboration and 29-year partnership of two of America's most innovative and exciting jazz icons: Billy Strayhorn and Duke Ellington. She will be joined by acclaimed pianist Dennis Luxion.

From her headlining appearances at New York City's legendary Rainbow Room and Michael Feinstein's 54 Below, to her mainstage performances at the 2015 and 2017 Chicago Jazz Festivals, to her appearances at venerable jazz clubs all across the country, Elaine brings her joyful interpretations to vintage vocal gems and modern standards alike.

Time Out, Chicago calls Dame "a gem in the city's vocal jazz scene" and a "jazz dynamo." For the past 12 years, in addition to her work as a jazz singer, Dame has been a private jazz vocal instructor.

Luxion is a member of the piano faculty at Columbia College in Chicago and has an extensive background as a jazz pianist, composer and educator. He performs with his own trio and quintet at the Green Mill in Chicago.

Since 1981, the library has featured a wide variety of musical performances. The public is invited and the concerts are free to attend. For more information, visit www.scpld.org or call (630) 584-0076.
