SALUTE, INC. Donates Gift Cards to Coast Guard Members Impacted by Government Shutdown

SALUTE, INC., the Palatine, Illinois based nonprofit dedicated to helping military veterans and their families bridge financial gaps in times of need recently offered gift cards to all active members of the United States Coast Guard in the Chicago area. The Coast Guard is the only branch of the military whose members were directly impacted by the government shutdown that lasted five weeks.

"During challenging times like these, SALUTE answers the call to our military veterans and families by filling in the gaps," said Executive Director Mary Beth Beiersdorf "We were able to donate $50 gift cards to Walmart for every one of the Chicago-area Coast Guard members."

With at least 100 active Coast Guard members in the area, SALUTE's donation reached approximately $5,000.

"Because of our generous donors and sponsors, we are prepared to quickly respond to situations like this," said Beiersdorf. "We want to support these families in their effort to get through a difficult financial period."
