Crystal Lake man charged in drug-related death
A 30-year-old Crystal Lake man has been charged in the overdose death of a 40-year-old McHenry man.
McHenry police said Friday that Derrick J. Buttrum, of the 300 block of West Van Buren Street, delivered the drugs that caused the death of Richard T. Hyde.
Buttrum was charged Thursday with three counts of drug-induced homicide, two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
At the time he was charged, Buttrum was out on bond from the McHenry County jail on a related charge of possession of a controlled substance.
Hyde died on June 28. First responders answered a rescue call on the 4000 block of West Main Street and found him unresponsive, the victim of an apparent drug overdose.
Autopsy results confirmed Hyde's death was the result of the combination of alprazolam, oxycodone and fentanyl.
