Families celebrate old world Christmas at Schaumburg farm
Suburban 21st century families enjoyed a rural 19th century holiday celebration Sunday as the Schaumburg Park District hosted its annual Christmas in the Valley at Merkle Cabin and Volkening Heritage Farm.
The event highlights Christmas as it was marked in the late 1800s by settlers who made their homes on farms that are today's subdivisions and shopping centers.
The celebration included craft activities, roasting marshmallows over a fire and a visit with Santa.
