Double standard on demand for apologies
I read that House Speaker Paul Ryan asked Rep. Maxine Waters to apologize for her remarks. I do not agree with protesting elected officials when they are not performing official duties. So, I do not agree with Rep. Waters' approach. However, I think it is highly hypocritical for House Speaker Paul Ryan to ask for this apology when he did not ask others to apologize for their uncivil behavior.
Why did he not request an apology from the Republican representative who cried out "You lie" to the president of the United States during his first State of the Union address before a joint meeting of Congress? Why did Paul Ryan not request an apology from then-candidate Trump when he said "Just punch him (the protester) and I'll pay your legal bills"?
We have to clean up our own house first.
