U-46 students perform national anthem at Boomers opener
The Schaumburg Boomers home opener Tuesday night was ushered in by 150 students from Elgin Area School District U-46 performing the national anthem.
Band students from Kenyon Woods Middle School in South Elgin, plus Clinton, Garfield, Fox Meadow, Nature Ridge, Willard, Wayne and Liberty elementary schools took the field ahead of the Boomers' game with the Southern Illinois Miners.
The band of fifth- through eighth-graders were led by Sandra Smith, Becky Havel and Christie Zimmerman.
The Boomers also received their championship rings in a pregame ceremony. In addition to the 2017 title, the Boomers were league champions in 2013 and 2014.
Tuesday began a six-game homestand, which concludes with a 1 p.m. game Sunday against Traverse City.
