Boys volleyball: Barrington sharp in victory over Lake Zurich
Barrington's boys volleyball team tuned up for Wednesday's Mid-Suburban League championship match with a 25-20, 25-18 victory against visiting Lake Zurich in a nonconference matchup Monday.
The Mid-Suburban West champs were led on the attack by Gabe Hartke (9 kills), Michael O'toole (8) and Petar Lumovic (4).
Lumovic also led the Broncos with a pair of blocks and served an ace. O'toole had a team-best 7 digs and Thomas Chapman had 5, and Evan Caroll provided 18 setting assists.
Barrington hosts Hersey at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the MSL championships. Both teams were unbeaten against their divisional foes.
Both Barrington and Hersey earned No. 2 sectional seeds for the boys volleyball postseason, which begins next week.
Barrington is No. 2 in the 25-team Grant sectional, behind Libertyville. The Broncos are the only MSL team in the sectional. Lake Zurich has the No. 10 seed in that grouping.
Hersey is the No. 2 seed in the 27-team Glenbrook South sectional, behind only New Trier. Other teams in the Glenbrook South sectional include Palatine (No. 5), Maine West (8), Buffalo Grove (11), Wheeling (12), St. Viator (13) and Prospect (17).
The rest of the MSL will compete in the Addison Trail sectional. The top seed there is Glenbard West. Schaumburg has the top seed among MSL schools at No. 6; also in action will be Fremd (11), Leyden (14), Rolling Meadows (18), Conant (21) and Hoffman Estates (25).
