Make history with 'Heart of the Fox Run and Tug' this Sunday

History will be made in St. Charles this Sunday, May 20. That's when a tug of war will take place across the Fox River, starting at 10:30 a.m.

It's the first-of-its-kind event in the area and part of the Heart of the Fox Run and Tug, a joint venture of the St. Charles Kiwanis Club and the River Corridor Foundation.

Two 10-member teams face off across the river, a 700-pound rope between them. The objective: gain 20 feet of rope from the opponent to be declared the winner.

Contests are every 30 minutes, with neighborhoods, schools, churches, and sports teams challenging each other.

The location is just south of the Main Street bridge, from the Harris Bank parking lot on the east to the First Street construction area on the west.

Registration is $10 per team member ($100 per team). Teams must register 10 members to participate. Teams can register online at heartofthefox.itsyourrace.com or Sunday on-site.

If running is more your style, there are certified 5K and 10K Runs, starting at 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. respectively, plus the Colonial Family Color Run at 9 a.m. The same registration information applies.

The day kicks off in Pottawatomie Park with a chip timed, certified 5K Walk/Run course and a chip timed, certified 10K Run. Cost is $45 for the 10K or $35 for the 5K. The fee for the Color Run 1K is $15 or $10 for children, age 2 to 12.

Proceeds help the St. Charles Kiwanis with its commitment to area children in need and the River Corridor Foundation with its mission to enhance the downtown riverfront environment.
