Lake in the Hills residents injured in early morning house fire
Two people were injured in an early Sunday fire that destroyed their Lake in the Hills home, officials said.
The residence on Newbury Court was engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived about 3:45 a.m., said Battalion Chief Mike Pierce of the Huntley Fire Protection District. Two residents who suffered burn injuries were outside the home.
After being treated by paramedics, both people were flown by helicopter to a Rockford hospital with a burn center, Pierce said. Their conditions are unknown.
Firefighters battled the blaze for hours before it was brought under control.
"We were in defensive mode the whole time based off the fire load when we arrived," Pierce said.
Officials were told the residents also had pets inside the house, but no animals have been found, he said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The house was deemed uninhabitable, Pierce said, though a damage estimate was not immediately available.
