Several DuPage groups sponsoring scholarship programs

Several groups in DuPage County are sponsoring scholarship programs in the coming weeks. Here's a quick look:

Bloomingdale Artists Association: The group will offer a $1,000 scholarship to a student pursuing a visual fine arts degree.

The scholarship is co-founded by the association and Masterpiece Framing of Bloomingdale and is open to residents of DuPage and nearby areas.

Applicants must be a senior in high school or 18 or older.

The award will be applied to 2018 college or art school tuition and the recipient must participate in the 2018 BAA Member Exhibit.

Applicants must provide their name, address, phone number, email address and birth date; a letter of reference from an art teacher; and a recent school transcript.

They also must include a one-page essay that addresses "What inspires you to create art?" and up to three images of their work. Images must be printed on or attached to an 8.5-inch-by-11-inch sheet, and the title and medium of each work should be included.

The application packet is due by April 1 and should be mailed or delivered to: Bloomingdale Artists Association Scholarship Committee, c/o Masterpiece Framing, 109 S. Bloomingdale Road, Bloomingdale, IL 60108.

Applications received after the April 1 deadline will not be considered.

For questions, call Roberta Cencig at (847) 848-3482 or Bev Petrosius at (630) 624-9545.

The scholarship is a one-time award; funds will be mailed directly to the school.

Naperville Junior Woman's Club: The group is accepting applications for its 2018 scholarships.

The club will award three $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors who reside in Naperville Unit District 203 or Indian Prairie Unit District 204.

Students who attend Benet Academy in Lisle or other schools can apply as long as they live within the District 203 or District 204 boundaries.

Scholarships will be awarded based on community service, school involvement, scholastic achievement and financial need. Applications can be downloaded at napervillejuniors.com.

Applications must be completed and received no later than March 15.

Result letters will be mailed directly to the applicants the week of April 16.

Lisle Lions Club Educational Foundation: As part of an ongoing commitment to support education and community service, the foundation is offering at least two $500 scholarships.

Lion Gary Morten of the Youth Activities Committee said applicants must be high school seniors and live in Lisle's 60532 ZIP code.

Each award may be renewed annually, up to three times, for a total value of $2,000 per recipient. Each renewal requires a new application and subsequent approval.

Applications are available through guidance offices at Lisle High School and Benet Academy, or by downloading from the Lisle Lions Club website, e-clubhouse.org/sites/lisleil.

Completed applications are to be returned to Benet Academy or the Lisle High School guidance office or sent to Lisle Lions Club, P.O. Box 481, Lisle, IL 60532. Applications are due April 4.

Selections will be evaluated on leadership, academic potential, community participation, career aspirations and financial need.

Selections will be made by the Lisle Lions Club Educational Foundation Committee. Recipients will be announced in May.
