One dead after semi goes off I-355 ramp near New Lenox

One person died and another was injured Tuesday afternoon after the semitrailer truck they were in crashed and fell off a ramp that connects southbound I-355 to eastbound I-80 near New Lenox. State Trooper David Roman said investigators determined that the truck's load shifted, which caused it to topple over to the right. The truck struck and then went over the low concrete wall before crashing below. Full story.

Democratic governor candidates make pitches to southern Illinois voters

President Donald Trump may be a racist and a bigot, said the six Democratic candidates for Governor Tuesday night, but the people who voted for him did so in spite of those characteristics, not because of them. All six appeared before a packed house Tuesday night at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, at a forum sponsored by the Southern Illinois LOCAL Media Group and the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce. Victim in Addison house fire helped connect teachers all over the world

Authorities are still investigating the cause of last week's house fire in Addison that killed a 76-year-old couple. DuPage County Coroner Richard Jorgensen on Tuesday identified the victims as Richard Sebring and Janice Barnstable. Peers identified Barnstable as a pioneer of the global classroom initiative that connected teachers all over the world. Full story.

Elgin police searching for men who tried to lure girl into van

The Elgin Police Department is searching for two men who tried to lure a 10-year-old girl into their van around 3 p.m. Tuesday. The 10-year-old girl was walking home from school near Logan and Lincoln avenues when she saw a light blue van. The two men inside, who appeared to be Hispanic and in their 20s or 30s, waved her down in what appeared to be an effort to have her approach the van. Full story.

Cuba Marsh dog park has backing of Barrington-area leaders

Barrington-area leaders are starting an awareness campaign to get the Lake County Forest Preserve District to build a dog park on the village's border. As envisioned by proponents, the doggy playground would be created in a section of the Cuba Marsh Forest Preserve in unincorporated Lake County, which connects to Citizens Park in Barrington. Former CLC board member, activist Philip Carrigan dies

Former College of Lake County board member, longtime activist and Lake County community leader Philip Carrigan died Sunday at the age of 73. Carrigan, a Waukegan resident, resigned from the board in September for personal reasons. He was elected to a 6-year term in April 2013 and previously served on the board from 2005-2011. Full story.

What stresses teens in the suburbs? School, competition, peers

A survey of nearly 4,700 suburban seventh- and tenth-graders determined the top three sources of their stress: School, competition and peers. Not necessarily surprising results, say researchers with North Central College and the Naperville nonprofit organization KidsMatter, who developed and administered the survey last October. Blackhawks get strong win in Nashville

The more Vinnie Hinostroza plays, the more it looks like the speedy winger should have been on the Blackhawks' roster all season. Hinostroza, who was one of the final roster cuts after training camp, scored a goal and recorded an assist in a 2-1 victory at Nashville on Tuesday to keep the Hawks' momentum rolling in their first game after the All-Star break.
