One dead after semi goes off I-355 ramp near New Lenox

One person died and another was injured Tuesday afternoon after the semitrailer truck they were in crashed and fell off a ramp that connects southbound I-355 to eastbound I-80 near New Lenox.

State Trooper David Roman said investigators determined that the truck's load shifted, which caused it to topple over to the right. The truck struck and then went over the low concrete wall before crashing below.

The crash happened at 3:22 p.m.

Authorities did not identify either crash victim. It isn't clear which person was driving the truck when it crashed.

Marisa Schrieber, the public information officer for the New Lenox Fire Protection District, said the injured crash victim was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox in stable condition. Schrieber said no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
