CDH spokesman: Patient threatened to harm himself with knife
A patient at a Winfield hospital brought a knife with him and threatened to hurt himself Saturday, a hospital official said.
Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital admitted a man to their emergency department on Saturday, spokesman Christopher King said. At about 2:45 p.m. the man, whom King did not identify, held the knife to his own throat.
"He pulled out a knife and he threatened to do self-harm," King said. "At that point, the staff called a code, which alerted security and the police."
King said Winfield officers talked to the man and convinced him to put down the weapon; the threat was over by about 3:15 p.m., and nobody was injured. The man remained at Central DuPage Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, King added.
Winfield police couldn't be reached for comment late Saturday.
