Windsor Park Retirement Community Celebrates 30th Anniversary

Windsor Park, a faith-based, non-profit continuing care retirement community administered by Covenant Retirement Communities (CRC), celebrated its 30th anniversary with an evening of reflection, gratitude, and fellowship. In addition to remarks by CRC's president, Terri Cunliffe, Windsor Park's Executive Director Andrew Clauson accepted proclamations presented by the Village of Carol Stream Mayor Frank Saverino and Illinois Sen. Michael Connelly.

"We are proud to live and work at a Covenant community, where every day is an opportunity to create joy and peace of mind for residents and their families," said Clauson. "For 30 years, our vibrant, caring, faith-based community has been a place where people can continue to learn, serve, and live with joy and purpose among their peers and the greater community."

Joining the community wide celebration last month were residents, staff, the Village of Carol Stream's first responders, and Steve Johnson, managing director of Ziegler, Chicago, and grandson of Torrey Johnson, the founder of Windsor Park (then called Windsor Park Manor). Guests viewed the video highlighting the history of Windsor Park and enjoyed chef-prepared appetizers and entertainment by the Kairos String Quartet.

As part of the ongoing anniversary celebration, on Aug. 28 residents and staff participated in a day of service at Feed My Starving Children in Aurora. The group packed 67 boxes of food, which provides 14,472 meals to 39 children for one year.

Windsor Park is comprised of active, educated, socially aware residents who embrace life and opportunities on campus and within the local community. Programming and community outreach efforts are guided by Windsor Park's LifeConnect® philosophy, which incorporates eight dimensions of wellness - community, emotional, intellectual, physical, social, spiritual, vocational and resident/staff involvement - in all aspects of community life.

"Living a life of purpose is part of our culture," said Clauson. "During the planning stages for Windsor Park, leaders envisioned a senior living community where retired professors, ministers, missionaries and others could continue living a purposeful, comfortable lifestyle in a beautiful setting. Their vision is our reality."

Windsor Park opened on a 42-acre property with 199 residents living in Tudor-style apartments. Today, the continuing care retirement community serves more than 500 seniors. The lush grounds have since expanded to 60 acres and still include five fish-stocked lakes and several walking paths. Residents can now choose from one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartment homes and one-story duplex homes.

The hub of campus life is the Centrum, where residents can access the creative arts studio, library and fitness center. An art gallery showcases work by local and resident artists, and the auditorium welcomes professional musicians, artists and speakers. The dining room offers lunch and dinner and the London Grille is open throughout the day for residents, staff and visitors.

Currently, Windsor Park provides a full range of on-site continuum of care services including assisted living, catered living, memory care, skilled nursing and short- and long-term rehabilitation. For residents living with Alzheimer's or other dementia diseases, Windsor Park offers SAIDO Learning®, a non-pharmacological method used to treat the symptoms of the diseases.
