Tarkington students walk and roll to school

Tarkington students celebrated National Walk and Bike to School Day on October 4 by walking, biking, rollerblading, skateboarding and riding scooters to and from school.

Officers from the Wheeling Police Department visited Tarkington before school, after school, and during lunch, to share tips with students about travel safety. Officer Scott Laverd talked about the importance of wearing helmets when rollerblading, biking and using a skateboard or scooter, and showed students how to properly wear and adjust helmets.

National Walk and Bike to School Day provides an opportunity for communities across the country to join together to celebrate safe, active transportation and, where needed, to bring attention to necessary changes so more people can safely bicycle to more places. More than 2,500 schools in 49 states registered events on the official Walk and Bike to School Day website, walkbiketoschool.org.
