Buffalo Grove welcomes SukkArt in the Park Oct. 8
Northwest Suburban Chabad hosts SukkArt in the Park from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at Cambridge Park 951 S. Buffalo Grove Road, Buffalo Grove.
Open and free to the public, this event marks the observance of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, which is traditionally celebrated by eating in a Sukkah hut and shaking the Lulav, the Four Kinds.
Custom designed and hand painted by Alana Korol, the SukkArt displays four unique, wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling paintings visualizing various Jewish concepts - peace, prayer, unity and growth.
The SukkArt in the Park will include light refreshments, hot dogs and, of course, Lulavs to shake.
The SukkArt joins Chabad's expanding series of Sukkahs. While the oversized Sukkah sits outside Chabad, the Sukkah Mobile Truck, PediSukkah and a portable Sukah are all spread through the suburbs.
Chabad-Lubavitch, the largest Jewish outreach organization in the world, is hosting thousands of Sukkah celebrations in cities across the globe. The celebrations all share a common theme: Jewish unity.
The fall festival Sukkot commemorates God's protection of the Jewish people through their 40-year desert trek. Surrounding the Jews on all sides, the Clouds of Glory sheltered them from adverse weather and absorbed enemy weapons.
The Sukkah hut is built for the week of Sukkot and is covered with a roof of foliage. The Sukkah is not bound to a maximum size limit, signifying the unity of this holiday that welcomes one and all to celebrate within its walls.
