ArtsFest returns to St. Charles Sept. 8-17

The St. Charles Arts Council, in partnership with the St. Charles Park District, presents ArtsFest | St. Charles - All of the Arts, All Over Town starting Friday, Sept. 8, through Sunday, Sept. 17. It features arts programming going on all over town.

• The 12th annual "Sculpture in the Park," the most notable event sponsored by the St. Charles Park Foundation, runs May through mid-October each year. The landscape of Mount St. Mary Park presents a striking and engaging show against the backdrop of nature's seasonal beauty. This event's purpose is to raise awareness of the sculptural arts and the beautiful parks in downtown St. Charles. The foundation strives to provide striking sculptural works with substantial breadth and depth in both subject matter and media for audiences to discuss, think about and enjoy. To check out the works online, visit www.stcparks.org.

• Fiber artist Marianne Williamson's show "Light and Motion in Textiles" will open Friday, Sept. 8, in the Kavanagh Gallery at Fine Line Creative Arts Center, 37W570 Bolcum Road in St. Charles. A reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibit will continue through Oct. 14.

• The Fine Line also offers "The Bead Challenge" for the Beads of Courage Program from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9. It's an open studio program for people who have some glass bead experience. No instruction will be given. Participants are asked to bring five beads to donate to the challenge, which is free. All supplies will be provided. Each participant will receive a free challenge T-shirt. For information, call Fine Line at (630) 584-9443. The Beads of Courage Challenge supports Beads of Courage, an arts-in-medicine program to improve the quality of life for children coping with serious illnesses, and their families, and clinicians. The Dempsey Gallery will feature one of their local artist shows, going on throughout ArtsFest.

• The Fine Line's popular intimate class format is back for a second year in "Create.Friday" from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15. Refreshments and supplies are included with the class fee; basket making will be featured for this session.

• The inaugural "Sculpture on the Prairie" exhibit features 11 sculptures located on the campus and prairie, through Oct. 28. There is always lots of art happening at Fine Line! Visit www.fineline.org.
