Giving Hope Event Helps Local Families

Faith Community Homes will host its annual Giving Hope fall fundraiser event at the Metropolis Ballroom in Arlington Heights on Sunday, September 24, from 4 to 6:30 pm. Giving Hope will provide a night of fun and laughs as well as inspiration, all for a good cause-to help local families.

The evening begins with a reception featuring heavy appetizers (with gluten-free and vegetarian options) and a cash bar as well as raffles and a silent auction. Items and activities up for bid in the silent auction include valuable entertainment and sports items, restaurant packages, and trips.

The main program will feature stand-up comedian and actor Rocky LaPorte as the headliner. Delivering laughs in his trademark Brooklyn accent, the former Chicago truck driver and dockworker has been featured on "Comedy Central Presents" as well as on late-night talk shows and in comedy clubs throughout the United States. Fellow comic Brian Hicks will introduce LaPorte.

The evening will also include an inspiring family story and a "Funds for Families" live, auction-style bidding time that will focus on growing the number of families served by Faith Community Homes over the next 12 months.

The purpose of Giving Hope is to raise money for local working-poor families assisted by Faith Community Homes. The organization's mission is to strengthen northwest suburban families to achieve financial stability and independence through mentoring, rental assistance and social services.

Faith Community Homes offers a two-year program to help low-income families learn solid financial principles and develop practical career-advancement skills. According to Charles Warner, executive director, the program includes targeted financial assistance as well as help from volunteer professional mentors. "Every member of our team is focused on building the overall confidence of the head of each household we assist," Warner said. "The result of this encouraging and supportive process is a high rate of success for those who complete the program."

Tickets for Giving Hope cost $55 each, or 10 for $450, and are available at fchomes.org or by calling 847-342-0846. The Metropolis Ballroom is at 6 S. Vail Ave., in Arlington Heights. Faith Community Homes is at 302 N. Dunton Ave., in Arlington Heights.
