Aug. 20: UPC Concert Series presents jazz by the Jon Rarick Big Band
The Jon Rarick Big Band will perform original jazz compositions and arrangements at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20 as part of the United Protestant Church of Grayslake Concert Series.
In May 2017, Rarick earned a master's degree from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in New York, where he majored in jazz writing and played trumpet.
A 2015 graduate of Elmhurst College, Rarick was a member of the Elmhurst College Jazz Band and performed with artists such as Manhattan Transfer, Doc Severinsen, Ryan Truesdell, Bobby Shew, Dee Dee Bridgewater and others. He earned four Downbeat Magazine Student Music Awards and has written and arranged music for Eastman School of Music's Jazz Ensemble, New Jazz Ensemble and Studio Orchestra as well as the Elmhurst College Jazz Band. The guest vocalist is Vanessa Norman, also an Elmhurst College graduate.
Rarick previously attended the College of Lake County and graduated from Grayslake North High School. He teaches for the Grayslake Jazz Combo Workshop and plays trumpet in the Chicago area.
