Crespo Co-Sponsors Backpack Distribution

STREAMWOOD, Ill. - Hanover Township's annual Backpack Giveaway, which provides low-income families with backpacks and supplies, is set to take place on Wednesday, August 9th, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and lasting until supplies run out. The event will be located at the Astor Avenue Community Center located at 7431 Astor Avenue in Hanover Park.

It will be a joint effort by the Hanover Township and The Office of Representative Fred Crespo, as well as Cook County Commissioner Tim Schneider's Office.

"Providing backpacks filled with necessary school supplies to students ensures that they begin the year with some of the tools and resources they need to succeed," Crespo said. "I am proud to work with Hanover Township and Cook County Commissioner Tim to help give hundreds of students a strong start to the year."

"Without needed school supplies many children don't attend the first day of school," said Mary Jo Imperato, the Director of the Hanover Township Community Center. "Seeing the children's faces light up is priceless because they know, too, that it is a hardship for their parents."

As the event grows to accommodate the many families needing school supplies, the need for additional donors grows as well. Hanover Township is accepting monetary donations and donations of new supplies and backpacks up until the event on August 9. Please contact Hanover Township by calling (630) 837-0301 for more information.
