The Streamwood Summer Celebration opens Friday night
The Streamwood Summer Celebration opens at 5 p.m. Friday, July 28, and continues through 8 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at Hoosier Grove Park, 700 W. Irving Park Road. It is sponsored by the Streamwood Chamber of Commerce, Streamwood Park District and Village of Streamwood.
Major entertainment includes Beatles tribute band American English at 8:30 p.m. Friday, 7th heaven at 8:30 p.m. Saturday and classic rock cover band ARRA at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
Other main stage acts include Fool House at 5:30 p.m. Friday, the winner of the Friday Night Local Music Showcase at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Johnny Russler & the Beach Bum Band at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Wild Daisy at 3 p.m. Sunday.
The Summer Celebration parade is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the theme "Movie Magic." It starts at Bartlett Road and Streamwood Boulevard and goes west on Streamwood Boulevard to the festival grounds.
A parking ban will be in effect along Streamwood Boulevard from Oltendorf Road to Madison from 7 a.m. until one hour after the parade concludes. At 9 a.m., Streamwood Boulevard will be closed from Bartlett Road to Oltendorf Road.
There will be a variety of carnival games and rides, with unlimited rides from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with purchase of a $20 wristband. There will be a business expo, a children's craft activity area and bingo all three days. There will be numerous kids games and activities.
Festival hours are 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. Complete festival details are at streamwoodsummercelebration.org.
Alternate parking (only handicap and permit parking are allowed on-site) is at Park Place, 550 S. Park Blvd.; the village hall, 301 E. Irving Park Road; and Hanover-Countryside School, 6 S. Bartlett Road. Shuttle Bus Service runs every half hour from 4 to 11:30 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
Other Friday evening activities include the Local Music Showcase at 5:30 p.m. on the Children's Stage and Woody's Barnyard Races at 8 p.m.
Other Saturday activities include an ice cream eating contest at 1 p.m., SPD Dance Academy at 1 p.m., Jesse White Tumblers at 1:30 p.m., talent show at 4 p.m., hula hoop contest at 7:30 p.m., outdoor movie "Sing!" at 5:30 and 8:15 p.m., and Woody's Barnyard Races at 4, 6 and 8 p.m.
Other Sunday activities include stilt walker and juggler Jason Kollum at various times, fire hose spray at 3 p.m., The Frog Lady Animal Act at 3:30 p.m., jump rope contest at 4:30 p.m., Woody's Barnyard Races at 4 and 6 p.m., and raffle drawing at 7:30 p.m.
