Algonquin library to offer Junior Master Gardener Program

This summer the Algonquin Area Public Library is encouraging kids, age 7 to 13, to dig in the dirt at the Harnish Main Library, 2600 Harnish Drive.

The district is partnering with University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener Program to bring the Junior Master Gardener program to their community. Children participate in hands-on group and individual learning experiences that can develop a love of gardening and an appreciation for the environment.

"This isn't just about growing plants," said Alexa Newman, youth services librarian and University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener. "The program engages kids in activities that develops leadership skills, grows their personal pride and sense of responsibility, and helps them become more involved in their communities."

This program is open to all junior gardeners regardless of what library district they live in. It continues from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursdays, June 15 and 29; and July 13 and 20. No registration is required. For questions, contact Alexa Newman at anewman@aapld.org or (847) 458-3168. Visit www.aapld.org.
