Weather adds extra challenge to Lake in the Hills races
As of running through the hilly east side neighborhoods of Lake in the Hills toting a 30-pound rucksack wasn't challenge enough, Sunday morning's wet and chilly weather added another level of difficulty to the annual Run Thru Hills 5K and 10K races.
Despite far from ideal conditions, dozens of runners - some taking on the additional 30-pound burden for the special ruck run/walk category - participated in the event, which has been hosted every year since 1999 by the village of Lake in the Hills.
This year's event featured a new kids dash, which replaces the 1-mile kids run, and medals were awarded to the top three male and female finishers in different age categories.
