Church traveling to Honduras to improve village water and sanitation
March 26, 2017, (Lindenhurst, IL): A team of 12 dedicated members, The Living Waters Mission Team, of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Lindenhurst, IL will be traveling to Honduras from July 22 through July 29, 2017 to install a well in the remote highland village of the Olanchito for the purpose of improving water quality and hygiene in the village.
"This is a calling to help impoverished people" commented Judy Kless Dunfrund, spokesperson for the team. "Numerous Honduran villages drink water that is so polluted that it looks like tea or coffee."
The Living Waters Team will be asking the congregation and those in the community to walk with them on May 6, 2017 for a Living Water Walk Celebration. "We will be walking as a group," commented Mrs. Dunfrund, "to Lake Linden to fill empty jugs with water and carry them back to the church. This 'carrying of the water' will help symbolize what the people of the Honduras must do when a sustainable source of water is not available."
Millions of people around the world do not have access to clean water, or sometimes do not have access to water at all, without having to travel long distances or take other measures to obtain clean water. Because of this, people are susceptible to many illnesses which could be avoided with clean drinking water.
To cover the cost of travel and this project, the team started with a fundraising Honduran style dinner at St. Mark along with handing out water bottle banks to collect donations. The team is excited that they have enough additional funds to also bring Bibles and hygiene kits to the community.
This project is a joint effort of Living Waters International and the Living Water Mission Team of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Living Water International is a faith-based, non-profit organization that helps communities in developing countries to create sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene programs in response to the global water crisis.
