Glenbard North students to host elected officials forum

Glenbard North High School government students will host an elected officials forum at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 12.

As part of the local government unit in class, students researched county, village, park, library and school boards in Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights and Hanover Park. Each student contacted members of the governing boards and invited them to the forum. Because of the overwhelming positive response from government officials, organizers had to narrow the scope to a few individuals from each board.

The following officials are scheduled to participate: Bloomingdale Village Trustee Michael Hovde, Carol Stream Village Manager Joe Breinig, Carol Stream Village Trustees Matt McCarthy and Rick Gieser, DuPage County Board District 6 member Jim Zay, DuPage County Coroner Richard Jorgensen, Glenbard District 87 Superintendent David Larson, Glenbard District 87 Parliamentarian Bob Friend, Glenbard District 87 Board of Education member Margaret DeLaRosa, Glendale Heights Village Clerk Marie Schmidt and Hanover Park Village Clerk Eira Sepulveda.

Students will ask officials about their responsibilities and the functions of each board. All students are welcome and encouraged to attend the forum. Glenbard North plans to make the forum an annual event.
