U-46 CEO Tony Sanders addresses the Elgin Lions Club
Tony Sanders, CEO of Elgin Area School District U-46, will be the guest speaker at the next Elgin Lions Club's meeting at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the Elgin American Legion Hall, 820 N. Liberty St.
The district serves nearly 40,000 students from 11 communities across Kane, Cook, and DuPage counties. With 40 elementary schools, eight middle schools, and five high schools, U-46 ranks as the second largest district in Illinois. On the district's website, it further states: "Our mission is to be a great place for all students to learn, all teachers to teach, and all employees to work. All means all."
Anyone concerned about the future of U-46 is invited to attend.
Those interested in attending the meeting to hear Sanders speak should leave a message indicating your planned attendance at (847) 289-4206. The charge is $12 for the meal. Advance notification is necessary to provide adequate seating and meals.
The Elgin Lions Club and the Dundee Township Lions Club are sponsoring the Lions Raceway Woods 5K Run and Walk at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at Raceway Woods Forest Preserve, off Route 31 in Carpentersville. They are now accepting sponsorships and donations, and signing up runners. Entry fees for the 5K are $30 by April 20 or $35 on race day. Cost for the walk is $20. For details on registration or sponsorship, visit www.LionsRaceway5K.com.
Also in April, the Elgin Lions Club is conducting their annual Rose Day fundraiser. Order a dozen beautiful roses for $15. Deliveries will be made on April 12-15. Proceeds from the Rose Day fundraiser pay for a great number of eyeglasses for U-46 schoolchildren. To order roses, contact any Elgin Lions Club member or call (847) 289-4206 and leave a message. A club member will return the call to obtain delivery information and arrange for payment.
The club's nonperishable food collection is winding down, but there are plans to continue as long as the need exists and there are generous donors. An amazing number of food items have already been donated by generous elementary school students and delivered to the Community Crisis Center and the Salvation Army.
