Schaumburg police arrest juvenile suspect in robbery
Schaumburg police officers early Friday arrested a 17-year-old Schaumburg boy who aimed a BB-gun that looked like a semiautomatic handgun at them, about a day after he's believed to have robbed a gas station attendant with an equally authentic-looking gun. The orange tip had been broken off the gun, making it look more realistic.
The juvenile was charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated assault to a police officer and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
The robbery occurred about 1:40 a.m. Thursday on the 1500 block of West Schaumburg Road. The robber ran north from the scene but was recorded by video.
Officers located a juvenile who matched the description of the robber at 1:48 a.m. Friday walking near Carver and Eastham Lane in Schaumburg. Though the boy pointed the gun at officers, they were close enough to deflect his arm and remove the weapon from his hand, police said. He was found to be in possession of 94 rectangle-shaped bars of the anti-anxiety drug Alprazolam and 48 partial bars of Alprazolam, police said
The juvenile was taken to the Cook County Detention Facility, where he awaits a detention hearing.
