Cops identify Glendale Heights shooting victim; husband still hospitalized

A 49-year-old woman found shot to death Tuesday inside her Glendale Heights home has been identified as Tina Stevanovic, authorities said Wednesday.

Her husband, Darko Radonjic, 48, was unconscious and in police custody Wednesday afternoon while being treated for an unspecified medical condition at an area hospital, police said.

No charges have been filed, police said, and their investigation continues. But they said no other suspects are being sought in the woman's death and there is no danger to the community.

Meanwhile, a friend says her relationship with Stevanovic became more distant almost immediately after the Glendale Heights woman married Radonjic in September 2015.

But she still was shocked and distraught Wednesday when Stevanovic was identified as the shooting victim.

"She was so smart and so structured in her life. I think she attributed that to her strict Serbian upbringing," said Ruby Russell of Deerfield.

Russell and Stevanovic became close in 2000 when they attended a specialized management program together at Elmhurst College. They maintained the friendship over the years, with Russell even making travel arrangements for Radonjic to move to Glen Ellyn from Serbia months before the wedding.

"Once they got married, everything changed. All socializing, talking and hanging out just stopped," Russell said Wednesday.

Police said they responded to a 911 call about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at the couple's townhouse on Harbor Court. The initial call indicated two people were dead.

Stevanovic appeared to have been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Police found Radonjic unconscious but alive.

An autopsy for Stevanovic was scheduled for Wednesday.

The case is being investigated by Glendale Heights police along with the DuPage County coroner's office and the DuPage Major Crimes Task Force.
