Rock on Palatine seeks contestants for singing contest
If you've got talent and know how to sing, register now for the second annual Rock on Palatine Singing Contest on the main stage at Durty Nellie's Saturday, Nov. 19. This event is presented by Vicarious Productions and JP Wood Martial Arts America.
The competition allows for soloists, with a maximum of four minutes to perform. The performances can be a cappella, with background music supplied by the contestant or with a live guitar or keyboard only.
"We are thrilled to be going into our second year of Rock on Palatine. More than 500 spectators came out to cheer on our contestants during our inaugural event in 2015, and this year promises to add even more excitement and fun," said Melanie Santostefano of Vicarious Productions, who founded the event along with Jan Wood of JP Wood.
Contestants who reside in the following communities are invited to compete in the contest: Palatine, Arlington Heights, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Lake Zurich, Deer Park, Kildeer, Hawthorn Woods, Mount Prospect, Rolling Meadows, Inverness, Hoffman Estates, Streamwood and Schaumburg.
Competitor categories include Junior 1 (ages 6-9), Junior 2 (ages 10-13), Teens (ages 14-17) and Adults (ages 18 and older). The deadline to register to participate in this competition is Nov. 1.
First-, second- and third-place winners will be named in each category. First-place winners receive $100 in cash and a trophy, second-place winners receive a $25 gift card and a medal, and third-place winners receive a medal. All contestants will receive a certificate of participation.
The competition will begin at 2 p.m. at Durty Nellie's, 180 N. Smith St., in Palatine. Singers are asked to arrive at 1 p.m. The band room will be opened to the general public at 1:30 p.m.
