TLS Veterans to host benefit concert Aug. 26

In celebration of its 20 years of serving local veterans, McHenry-based TLS Veterans is hosting a benefit concert.

Billed as "Local Bands for our Local Veterans," the show takes place at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the Raue Center for the Arts in Crystal Lake. Stand-up comedian John DaCosse, who is part of the Steve Cochran Show on WGN-radio, will serve as emcee.

A local country band, Bourbon Country, will open the show. With their acoustic guitars and mix of new and classic country, they have a big following in Kane and McHenry counties. For this show, band members are bringing a new song list and featuring singer Randy Leggee.

Next up is the rock band What About This, which appeared last month in Crystal Lake's Lakeside Festival, and features singers Gary Reece and Aaron Shepley, mayor of Crystal Lake.

A jazz ensemble follows featuring an interactive set by Roger Reupert and Friends, as well as jazz singer Cheryl Wilson and pianist Jeremy Kahn.

A blues band follows. Appropriately called the Blues Crew, the band will feature John Todd, Charlie Long and John Blazier, as well as special appearances by Roger Reupert, Jeremy Kahn and Cheryl Wilson. Look for a special guest appearance by blues artist Jimmy Nick of the band Don't Tell Mama.

"We're hoping this concert appeals to everyone," says Laura Franz, executive director of TLS Veterans. "It's a new fundraising avenue for us, and local businesses are stepping up to sponsor it. Each band will play a set, so it should be a great night of music and helping veterans."

Tickets start at $35. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.rauecenter.org.
