Boys volleyball: Vernon Hills falls to Leyden
Jake Adkisson and Jared Bennett had a team-leading 3 kills apiece as Vernon Hills struggled for offense in a 25-23, 25-14 loss to Leyden in boys volleyball on Monday.
Setter Jake Fiarito had 9 assists.
"We're not a good enough team to play disinterested, or to react negatively to mistakes the way we did tonight," Vernon Hills coach Chris Curry said. "Leyden came to play, they came with emotion and that led to execution on their part. They played defense the way it needs to be played. We watched. The good news is, we can watch tape of them playing defense and learn how it's done."
Vernon Hills is now 10-8.
Zion-Benton d. Grayslake Central: Bobby Fortman had 4 kills and 4 blocks as Grayslake Central was swept by Zion-Benton, 25-14, 25-21.
Ethan Rockel led the Rams with 4 digs and setter Matt Kozak had 10 assists.
Hersey d. Stevenson: Hersey swept Stevenson, 25-23, 25-18.
Alex Pieprzycki led Stevenson with 4 kills while setter Jeffrey Wang had 22 assists.
Austin Zhou had a team-high 4 digs for the Patriots, who are now 9-12 on the season.
