Glendale Heights promotes deputy chief to lead police department

A 28-year veteran of the Glendale Heights Police Department has been appointed the village's new police chief.

Douglas Flint, most recently the department's deputy chief of support operations, will fill the position formerly held by Michael Marron, who retired last month.

"I am grateful for this opportunity and intend to give the very best of myself to the challenge of protecting and serving the community," Flint said in a written statement.

Flint joined the department in 1988 as a patrol officer and has worked his way through the ranks. Along the way he picked up five Division Meritorious Awards, 10 Honorable Mention Awards and a recognition from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for a long-term investigation operation.

City officials said Flint has been vital in a number of major accomplishments for the department, including developing and implementing active shooter drills with school districts and upgrading the Glendale Heights Citizens Police Academy curriculum.

"After an extensive search process, I knew (Flint) was the right person for this position," Village President Linda Jackson said in a written statement. "He is stepping into a role that has seen many great leaders, and I know (he) will continue that tradition ..."
