Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital celebrates Leap Day babies

DOWNERS GROVE - Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital had a lot to celebrate today as parents welcomed newborn babies on Leap Day, Monday, Feb. 29.

More than 1,850 babies are born each year at Good Samaritan Hospital, but those born on this special day command extra attention. The likelihood of being born on Leap Day is one in 1,461. In a world of more than 7 billion people, it is estimated that only 5 million or less than one percent can claim a Feb. 29 birthday.

Hospital OB/GYNs, pediatricians, nurses and associates welcomed the newborns into the world with "Advocate Leap Day Baby" bibs that include a picture of the Advocate Children's Hospital "Get-Well Pal" green frog.

Good Samaritan Hospital's Leap Day babies include:

• Madison Berkshire, daughter of Emily and Brad Berkshire of Lombard, was born at 8:33 a.m., weighing 8 pounds and 13 ounces and is 20.5 inches long.

• Alida Anne Smith, daughter of Rebecca and Michael Smith of Lisle, was born at 1:54 pm, weighing 6 pounds and 12 ounces and is 20.5 inches long.
