Seniors enjoy leap year birthday bash in Ingleside

What was billed as a Leap-Year Birthday Bash for senior citizens didn't attract anyone who was born Feb. 29, but that didn't stop the party.

Catholic Charities officials went ahead and feted 14 seniors with birthdays in the month of February during Monday's event at Maravela's in Ingleside. Those seniors were serenaded with the song of "Happy Birthday" sung by the other seniors at the luncheon.

"This one was an opportunity for us to celebrate this very rare day, as we all know, every four years, to celebrate leap year babies," said Marla Harris, Lake County director of Senior Services. "Or, in our case, what we got was a bunch of February birthdays."

This year's birthday bash included a lunch of country fried steak, mashed potatoes and green beans with dessert of cake and ice cream.

After dinner, seniors enjoyed dancing with music based on the top 10 Tunes from leap years since 1932.
