Wheaton's questionable and nefarious vote
The Wheaton City Council approved a flawed PUD proposed by Airhart Construction over the objections of the neighbors, zoning board, 6 to 1 against, and city staff, all of whom were opposed to the project at 208 N. West St.
In fact, there was no community support for the project at all. Ignoring the objections and their own zoning code Mayor Gresk and the following councilman voted to approve the project: Suess, Scalzo and Saline.
Thanks goes to Councilman Rutledge and Prendiville and Councilwoman Fitch who supported the neighbors. Councilman Rutledge voted no even though he is a strong proponent of landowner and developer rights. It was obvious to him as it was to the neighbors that this PUD clearly did not meet Wheaton's requirements for approval of PUD's.
Thanks also to the Daily Herald for covering this story and shining the light of day on an extremely questionable and nefarious vote.
We ask our friends and neighbors in Wheaton to assist us in ensuring that the mayor and three councilmen who voted yes are not re-elected. It seems the only voice that we have any more is at the polls.
