16 years prison for 2014 South Elgin rape
A 45-year-old Hanover Park man was sentenced to 16 years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman he knew after they parked outside a South Elgin gas station in 2014.
A Kane County jury in December 2015 convicted Juan Calderon, of the 1900 block of Evergreen Street, of two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, both felonies, and a misdemeanor count of domestic battery.
Judge James Hallock Thursday issued the sentence, which also requires Calderon to register as a sex offender for life. He must serve 85 percent of the sentence, or about 13½ years. He receives credit for about two years served at the Kane County jail while the case was pending.
Prosecutors said Calderon and the victim got into a heated argument at about 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15, 2014, after they stopped in the parking lot of a gas station on the 0-99 block of Route 25.
Calderon punched and bit the victim on her head and body and sexually assaulted her twice, according to prosecutors.
