Hanover Park man found guilty of 2014 South Elgin rape
A Hanover Park man was convicted of raping a woman he knew last year outside a gas station in South Elgin, prosecutors said.
A jury late Tuesday convicted Juan C. Calderon, of the 1900 block of Evergreen Street, of two counts of felony aggravated criminal sexual assault and one count of felony domestic battery, officials said.
Prosecutors presented evidence that Calderon raped the woman twice after they argued outside a gas station on the 0-99 block of Route 25 in South Elgin on Feb. 15, 2014.
An angry Calderon punched and bit the woman on her head and body, and then sexually assaulted her in her pickup truck, which Calderon was driving, prosecutors said.
The woman and Calderon were headed to Aurora on a post-Valentine's Day date when Calderon pulled over and ordered her to have sex with him, police said at the time of his arrest.
After the attack, the woman ran for help and Calderon was arrested.
Judge James Hallock will sentence Calderon on Feb. 18; he faces 12 to 63 years in prison.
Calderon has been held at the Kane County jail since his February 2014 arrest, and his bond was revoked upon conviction.
Kane County Assistant State's Attorneys Greg Sams and Nick Gaeke prosecuted the case.
