Schaumburg Township offers Disabled Veterans Property Tax Seminar Feb. 17
Under a new law taking effect this year, veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces who were severely wounded while serving their country will no longer be required to pay property taxes in Illinois.
To qualify for the Disabled Veterans Exemption, a property must be owned and occupied by a disabled veteran, and the veteran must have a disability that is connected to military service.
The law requires that the service-connected disability be certified by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which determines the extent of a veteran's disability.
Disabled veterans are encouraged to attend a seminar that will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, by the Township of Schaumburg and Cook County officials. Attendees may fill out and submit exemption forms at this event that will be held at the Township of Schaumburg Building at 1 Illinois Blvd., in Hoffman Estates.
