Believe Project: $100 to help senior who loves to read books

Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Shawn Killackey of Mundelein.

Here is an excerpt of her story:

"My request is for a woman who comes into the bookstore I work at just about every Friday evening.

"Marta is a senior citizen who doesn't have any family in the area and comes to the store for company with other people. Her visits over the past year or so have helped her make some friends among employees, including myself.

"The common interest of books, plus her very outgoing personality, has made her a welcome friend to see every week.

"Winters can be tough for her if it's icy or snowy like last year and she is unable to venture out to the store. I just wanted to be able to give her the $100 so she can purchase some extra books that will help on those days that she's alone at home."

• The Believe Project is awarding $100 each day in December to a different person with a good idea for how to use the money to do a good deed for someone else.
